Soccer
Grades Pre-K – 8 | Boys & Girls | Fall & Spring
CAIS teams participate in the Viking and PAL Soccer Leagues against teams from schools throughout San Francisco. PreK through second-graders play micro-soccer (3 on 3). Third through eighth-graders play on teams of 7 – 11 players, depending on age. Parents coach and manage. Contact classroom liaisons for coach contact information.
Swimming
Grades K – 8 | Boys & Girls | September - December
The CAIS Swim Club helps students become proficient swimmers while working in a team environment. The swimmers compete in a meet at the end of each season. Practice is held Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays, 4 – 6 pm at Hamilton pool, Post and Steiner near Japantown. Students must be able to swim 30 yards and attend a minimum of one practice per week. They may join at any time. Seasonal fee is $200. Younger beginners may take lessons through the CAIS Extended Day program on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Information: Kevin Lee
JV & Varsity Volleyball
Coach: Ron Morris Grades 5 – 8 | Co-ed | Late August - Late October
Teams compete in the San Francisco Athletic League, comprised of similar-sized private schools in the Bay Area. Practice is held daily except for Wednesdays, 3:45 – 5 pm.
Club, JV & Varsity Basketball
Program director: David Smith Grades 5 – 8 | Boys & Girls | Winter Grades 3 – 5 | Boys & Girls | Spring (contracted coaches)
Fifth- through eighth-grade boys and girls compete in the San Francisco Athletic League basketball season under contracted coaches. Lower School students participate with French American IS students in an intramural program organized by the Athletic Department under contracted coaches.
Several K – 2 families have expressed an interest in joining a YMCA/JCC basketball league. Contact your classroom liaison if you are interested in joining or coaching.
Club, JV and Varsity Futsal
5 – 8 | Co-ed | Spring
This fast-paced, soccer-like game is played in the gym with five players per team, one of whom must be female. Teams compete in the San Francisco Athletic League under contracted Coaches.
Cross Country
Coaches: Debbie Talbot, Michele Douglass Grades 5 – 8 | Boys & Girls | Late August – Late October
Practices are held daily from 3:45 – 5 pm at Kezar Stadium in Golden Gate Park for pace, endurance and speed workouts. Runners must attend at least one practice per week plus 1.5-mile races held on Mondays at 4 pm at various locations. All races are divided by age and gender. Runners compete in the San Francisco Athletic League.

Triathlon
Ages 6 – 14 | Boys & Girls
CAIS students participate in the Silicon Valley Kids Triathlon, a fun and safe event held at De Anza College (Cupertino) on the first weekend in June. Over 400 competitors participate.
Under 6: 25 yard swim, 1 mile bike, 0.25 mile run Under 7-8: 100 yard swim, 2 mile bike, 0.50 mile run Under 9-10: 100 yard swim, 4 mile bike, 0.50 mile run Under 11-12: 200 yard swim, 6 mile bike, 1.25 mile run Under 13-14: 200 yard swim, 6 mile bike, 1.25 mile run
Swimming is in a pool, biking on a closed course (no public roads), and running on the track. More information: www.siliconvalleytri.com.
Track and Field
Grades 5 – 8 | Boys & Girls | 4th Saturday in May
CAIS students are invited to participate in the annual CYO (Catholic Youth Organization) track event held at St. Ignatius High School. Events include running—various distances, individual and relay—long jump, high jump and softball throw.
Softball
Coach: Michele Douglass Grades 6 – 8 | Co-ed | Spring
Softball will be offered if there are enough interested players.
