Chinese Dance Troupe

The Chinese American International School Dance Troupes, under the direction of Zhou Aiping, introduces, teaches, and celebrates the rich, beautiful and colorful heritage of Chinese ethnic folk dance.

Through this beautiful art form, we hope to contribute to the opening dialog with our younger generation of Chinese Americans as well as gaining mutual respect within our ethnically diverse communities in the San Francisco Bay Area.

Zhou Aiping studied at and was a Professor at the Beijing Dance Academy as well as the Hong Kong Performing Arts University and is Assistant Director of the China Dance School and Theater.

In the video below the youngest troupe of fourth and fifth graders perform a traditional Han Dynasty ribbon celebration dance. The middle troupe of sixth graders perform a Mongolian Rainbow dance. The eldest troupe of seventh and eighth graders perform a "Miao folk dance of girls in a forest from Southern China." The last dance of flames and fire was performed by a combined troupe of 6-8th graders during the San Francisco Chinese New Year Parade.
