From the moment of our founding and throughout the decades since, CAIS parent support has helped elevate the school from good to great. We continue this tradition by mindfully stewarding parent resources in two primary appeals through the year: Annual Fund First in the fall and then our spectacular ShowCAIS auction gala in the spring.

Annual Fund First 年度基金首要目标 100% Participation In 100 Days

In September, we kick off our 100% in 100 Days initiative for the Annual Fund , questing for participation from every parent. A best practice from peer independent schools, the condensed calendar channels energy and attention to the first half of the school year and allows the benefits of the Annual Fund First to be felt right away. Throughout the autumn months, the community sees the excitement build as each grade hits participation milestones. The school and fellow parents get in touch to talk about how you can take part and support:

  • Professional development—helping infuse teachers with fresh ideas, enthusiasm, and innovative approaches that they bring into their classrooms;
  • Tuition assistance—making CAIS accessible to a diverse and talented student body, strengthening the learning experience for all;
  • Program extras—including culturally rich and diverse field trips, robust English and Chinese library collections, outdoor education programming, service learning opportunities within San Francisco’s Chinese community, travel to China, and arts performances and exhibits that make CAIS one of the most outstanding and unique dual language immersion schools in the country.

ShowCAIS: Spring Auction Gala

To get a sense of the CAIS community in action, ask current parents about the electrifying moment at ShowCAIS this past spring when attendees responded passionately to “Fund a Need” to send teachers to China for professional development. In just a few heady minutes, this community pulled together to raise $306,500 for the faculty’s educational trips through the Shirley Lee Memorial Fund for Teaching Excellence. Spirits—and bid panels—were through the roof!

In the spring, you will receive an exclusive invitation to join hundreds of CAIS parents, grandparents, alumni and friends at ShowCAIS 2015, our glittering auction gala scheduled for Saturday, May 9, 2015, at the Ritz-Carlton. ShowCAIS 2014 was a prime example of our community at its philanthropic best, raising more than $863,000 total. ShowCAIS 2015 promises again to be great fun for a great cause.

Becoming Our Best Self: Campaign for CAIS

The strategic vision, adopted by the Board of Trustees in spring 2013, indicated that a key component to executing the strategic vision was to find additional facilities for CAIS. To that end, CAIS has signed a lease for and will renovate the two educational facilities at 888 Turk Street and 930 Gough Street. The CAIS middle school will move to its new home for the 2015-2016 school year. During this school year, members of the Board and I will be having a number of in-depth conversations in person with community members to seek philanthropic investments—over and above annual fund and ShowCAIS support—for the Capital Campaign.
