Middle school students are not allowed to hang out unsupervised on campus after school but are allowed to leave campus by themselves at the end of the school day.

Middle School Study Hall

Middle school study hall gives students a chance to work on their homework and seek help from teachers. The middle school study hall is located on the fourth floor in a designated middle school classroom.

Unsupervised Middle School Students

Students are not allowed to hang out unsupervised on campus after school. Any students not picked up by 3:45 p.m. will be signed into study hall and billed for the extended day drop in price. Any students who are found unsupervised on campus will also be signed in and sent to middle school study hall. Students who are repeatedly found in unsupervised areas will be asked to have a conference with the auxiliary program director, his or her parents and the head of school. It is important that the extended day staff know the whereabouts of all CAIS students after school. Any student on campus after the regular school day is the responsibility of the extended day staff.

Special Programs, Athletic Teams, Classes

If student is participating in an after school program such as tutoring, athletic team participation, attending enrichment classes or helping a teacher after school, the student must check in with the middle school extended day staff so that all students on campus are accounted for by the extended day program. There are no additional extended day charges for students who participate in athletic teams, enrichment classes or tutoring programs, however, all students who are on campus after the regular school day must be accounted for.

Self Transport

Middle school students are allowed to leave campus by themselves at the end of the school day. When the school day ends, they are given a reasonable amount of time to gather their books, tend to school business and leave campus. All middle school students who are still on campus after 3:45 p.m. will be signed into study hall.

Additional Notes

  • Chinese teachers and teaching associates will only speak Chinese during extended day.
  • Middle school students who are registered for pre-paid monthly full day may have study hall extended in a dedicated study hall location until 5:00 p.m. if homework or studying is not complete at the conclusion of the study hall hour.
  • Once a student leaves campus, he or she will not be allowed to return. For example, students are not allowed to leave campus, go to Walgreens to purchase a snack and return to campus for study hall or athletic practice. Students who abuse this rule will be referred to the auxiliary program director, then to the head of school.
