ShowCAIS 2021 - Virtual Event on Saturday, May 8
When we close the book on school year 2020–2021 later this spring, CAIS will be marking the completion of our 40th school year! In honor of this great milestone ShowCAIS 2021 will be held on Saturday, May 8, 2021—as we host CAIS’s 40th birthday party in the comfort of your own living room!
This year’s theme is inspired by Confucius’ account of his gradual progress and attainments through life, which seems especially poignant for this point in CAIS’s journey:
The Master said, “At fifteen, I had my mind bent on learning.
At thirty I stood firm.
At forty, I no longer had any doubts.”
—(Analects, Book 2, Chapter 4)
The online occasion will feature charcuterie delivery for the grown-ups (including scrumptious meals for sponsors) and special entertainment for children on their own screens (Magician for Preschool–5th graders! Dance party with DJ for middle schoolers!). We hope your whole family will join in this celebration.
For many years, CAIS’s annual auction gala has played a critical role in helping the school meet its operating budget. Last year’s event drew 342 attendees and raised $869,564 to keep the CAIS community together despite pandemic challenges. ShowCAIS celebrates CAIS’s premier status as the first Chinese immersion school in the country, and builds on the tradition of parent partnership and support that stretches back to the school’s founding. It’s also a fantastic time to reconnect with fellow parents and rally (virtually) around the school we love.
Here is a handy guide to give a sense of the many fundraising components and overall timing of this annual event. There are manyways to participate in the fun!
Families are invited to support the event at a variety of sponsorship levels including the very popular Teacher’s Table and Phoenix Firedragon which directly support teachers. Sponsor appeals were sent to the community in mid February; sponsors who reply by March 18 will be included in the official invitation. To purchase sponsorships or find out more information about sponsorship benefits, visit here. Please contact firstname.lastname@example.org if you wish to pledge a sponsorship.
Individual tickets are available now and will include charcuterie delivery and special entertainment for children during the event.
Party Sign Ups
Our community boasts serious talent for fun. In March, we will begin inviting parents to join the ranks of Party Sign Up Hosts and organize carousing for a great cause! Party Sign Ups are parent-led occasions organized around varied interests that provide opportunities to support ShowCAIS at a variety of levels. These gatherings will be held virtually this year to ensure staying safe while sharing in the fun!
Call for Wine
CAIS wine offerings are a perennial favorite of the Silent Auction. Keep an eye out for a call to the community later this spring to help stock the wine cellar by donating bottles of your choice recommendations.
Companies and organizations from around the Bay Area have generously provided items for bidding through our Online Auction. Beginning May 3 and ending May 9, all are able to enjoy the auction thrill online without having to leave the house!
Live Auction, Silent Auction, and Fund-A-Need at the Dinner Gala
The crowning moment of ShowCAIS will be on Saturday, May 8 streaming live to your laptops. The evening features electrifying items for bidding and culminates in Fund-A-Need, an opportunity to come together as a community in support of a special project. Last year’s Fund-A-Need effort was focused on keeping the CAIS community together through these difficult times.
CAIS’s operating budget depends on community support through ShowCAIS, which solicits support through live and online auction components, party sign-ups, sponsorships, and general donations.
If you have any questions about the event, please contact Paige Butler in the Advancement Office at email@example.com.
ShowCAIS 2021 will be co-chaired by Denyse Clancy Langdoc, parent of Emma (Kindergarten), and Ron Yu and Jane Choi, parents of Miles (6th grade), Grant (4th Grade), and William (Kindergarten).
