Middle School Speaker on Gender and Orientation
CAIS welcomed LGBTQ Speakers Bureau volunteer speaker Bonny Llyn to the 888 Campus. She visited Middle School classes and spoke about sexual orientation and her own experiences, informed the students about LGBTQ and ally resources in the area, and answered students’ many thoughtful questions.
For the 8th grade students, this talk built on conversations started in their Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion advisory unit from last spring, in which they used the model of the genderbread person to understand differences between biological sex, gender expression, gender identity, and sexual orientation. Students continue this conversation in their advisory groups.
