Hundreds of CAIS parents, parents of alumni, alumni, and friends will be in attendance at ShowCAIS 2019, our glittering auction gala on Saturday, May 11 at The Ritz-Carlton, San Francisco. Some questions we often receive about this exciting event include:
ShowCAIS, the school’s annual auction dinner dance, features Silent and Live Auctions and Fund-A-Need at a gala evening (this year on Saturday, May 11). In addition, ShowCAIS comprises an online auction component (running from the week before the gala through the week after) and Party Sign Ups (which open a few weeks before ShowCAIS).
For many years, the combined ShowCAIS components have played a critical role in helping CAIS meet its operating budget. The 2018 event drew 370 people and raised over $1,200,000 to support the mission of our school. ShowCAIS celebrates CAIS’s premier status as the first Chinese immersion school in the country, and builds on the tradition of parent partnership and support that stretches back to the school’s founding. It is also a fantastic time to indulge in fashion and fun and have a blast with other parents.
Individual ShowCAIS 2019 tickets will be $275 each ($95 of each ticket is tax-deductible which will be reflected in the ticket purchase acknowledgement letter sent following ShowCAIS to include a complete list of your ShowCAIS 2019 purchases) and will be on sale beginning March 23 until May 1. Complete tables and portions of tables are available via Sponsorships which may be purchased online through April 15.
Tickets are on sale through May 1.
Each year, tickets may be purchased by cash, check or by credit card. Groups of tickets may be purchased as part of a Sponsorship. Please note, there are no printed tickets for this event. Guests check in by name at the event. RSVP required, no tickets will be sold at the door.
ShowCAIS is a seated dinner for which all RSVPs must be in before the event. No tickets are sold at the door and the only guests permitted entry are those who have sent an RSVP in advance.
All funds raised by ShowCAIS (except for Fund-A-Need which supports a specific, restricted purpose) go directly to this school year’s budget and supporting faculty. Your impact, via ShowCAIS, is immediate and broad-reaching. The CAIS Board of Trustees plans each year’s operating budget to include revenue from ShowCAIS and Annual Fund; the school absolutely counts on this support.
Sponsorships of ShowCAIS are fully tax deductible minus the fair market value ($180 per seat, plus any transportation and lodging your sponsorship includes. Benefits you do not use, such as donated seats or unused transportation, will be deducted from the total fair market value). The CAIS Advancement Office sends a summary of all donations shortly after the event. Phoenix Firedragon sponsorships are 100% tax deductible.
Platinum, Gold, and Silver sponsors receive premium seating and their tables will be placed in close proximity to the stage and dance floor. Seating requests by Bronze and Jade sponsors, and ticket purchasers, are welcomed by the Advancement Office and will be accommodated to the best of their ability.
As a Platinum, Gold, or Silver sponsor you may invite guests to sit at your table or donate unused seats back to CAIS to be used by teachers and their guests. The ShowCAIS Co-Chairs assemble a spectacular slate of items such as exclusive access to vacation destinations and dining experiences! And of course, we continue the cherished tradition of auctioning two pieces of large scale art from the Pre-Kindergarten classes and three pieces of large scale art from the Kindergarten classes. These will be previewed via email to parents in these grades.
The capstone of the Live Auction, Fund-A-Need is an opportunity for everyone in the room to support a special and specific CAIS initiative at whatever level moves them. As an example, one of the most electrifying moments at ShowCAIS 2016 was when attendees responded passionately to “Fund the Need” to assist with teachers’ commuting costs. In just a few heady minutes, this community responded to an anonymous matching gift and pulled together to raise over $400,000 to improve teachers’ quality of life. Spirits—and bid panels—were through the roof!
An especially fun component of ShowCAIS is the bevy of Party Sign Ups made available to purchase prior to, during, and after the auction gala. Generously funded and hosted by parents, these gatherings offer community members a variety of great ways to spend time together while supporting this great cause. The ticketed events are sold in the spring and generally pepper the schedule throughout the following fall.
Sponsorship: If you are unable to attend you can still sponsor the event and donate your unused seats to teachers and their guests.
Item Donations: CAIS families are encouraged to share donations of wine (valued at $25+) for the Silent Auction.

The Advancement Office works closely with parent volunteers to make ShowCAIS a roaring success.
