Dr. Tara Fortune Presentation Registration
A Conversation with Immersion Researcher Dr. Tara Fortune
Thursday, March 5, 2020 • 5:30 to 7:00 p.m.
Hosted at CAIS • 888 Turk Street, San Francisco
In 1981, when the first Mandarin immersion school in the U.S. opened its doors in San Francisco to teach young children Chinese for half of the school day, little was known about how well the program would work. Today, nearly four decades later, the rapid upsurge of Chinese immersion programs across the U.S. has fueled research interest. In her timely presentation, Dr. Tara Fortune will discuss:
- benefits of language immersion education
- recent findings on achievement and proficiency outcomes in Chinese immersion, and
- important ways families can support children’s academic and language learning success as immersion students.
The keynote speaker at this year’s Early Childhood Chinese Immersion Forum at CAIS, Dr. Tara Fortune served for over twenty years as Director of the Immersion Research and Professional Development Project at the Center for Advanced Research on Language Acquisition, University of Minnesota. Her work has involved schools, districts, state agencies, universities, and non-profit organizations throughout the U.S. and abroad.
