Over the past few weeks, I have been observing and connecting with our Lower School team to learn how I can best support our community. What I see every day makes me both proud and grateful—not only as an administrator but also as a fellow CAIS parent. Across grade levels and departments, I see care, thoughtfulness, and deep dedication, all rooted in one shared principle: doing what is best for our students.

This year also feels different—a first year in many ways. After navigating the challenges of COVID-19 protocols, testing, campus relocation, construction, packing, and unpacking, we finally have the space to slow down and restrengthen together. For that reason, I’ve shared with the Lower School team that our theme for this year is: “Slow Down and Build Each Other.”
- Slow down to notice our students’ growth, to support their developmental needs, and to build connections that help them better understand themselves.
- Build each other to strengthen ourselves as educators, advocates, and communicators who inspire and uplift our community.
I share this vision with you, our Lower School families, because I believe our Firedragons thrive when we walk this path together. I hope you will join us in these same commitments:
- Slow down to listen to your children, ask thoughtful questions, and connect with teachers as partners in their growth.
- Build each other by working with us to help our Firedragons see that the adults in their lives are aligned and united in supporting them.
Let’s talk, connect, and partner together to make this a year of meaningful growth and joyful learning. I am eager to get to know more of you, and I warmly invite you to reach out if you would like to schedule a time to chat and share.
Warmly,
Wei Qian
Lower School Director
